What is speech therapy?

A speech language pathologist is . . .
(SLPs) work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults.
A speech evaluation is . . .
A measurement of your child's communication skills, including speaking, listening and social language abilities. Feeding can be included, too! This can be done via standardized or non standardized measures.
Would my child benefit?
If you are noticing delays with their communication milestones in the area of comprehension (following directions), expression (number of words they are using) and pragmatics (using words for socialization), they would likely benefit from an evaluation!

Our Process

Explore our comprehensive approach to speech therapy

1. Schedule a speech / language evaluation

Speaking Sensory is equipped with both standardized and non-standardized assessments to best evaluate your child’s current level of skills. The evaluation is tailored to your concerns and will typically take ~45-60 minutes. It typically consists of a parent interview, case history information, play-based assessments, and more!

2. Receive a custom treatment plan

Your therapist then formulates a treatment plan based on your child’s needs. The therapist works with you to decide an appropriate frequency (how many sessions per week). You will receive updates on your child’s progress after each session and more detailed progress reports every six months.

3. Begin speech therapy sessions

Sessions range from 30, 45 and 60 minutes and vary based on the age and needs of your child. Evidence-based practice is at the core of our speech/language intervention services. We take a whole child approach, tailoring our services to meet the unique needs each individual. Our sessions also include parent education to ensure carryover of skills and maximize progress.

4. Experience flexible scheduling and support

At Speaking Sensory, we understand the importance of convenience and flexibility for our families. We are a mobile practice that offers home and/or community based services in the Charlotte and surrounding areas. Meaning – we come to you! Whether you prefer in-person sessions or virtual therapy, we have flexible appointment times available to suit your needs.
