Sydney graduated with her Master’s of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of North Dakota in 2023. She is licensed by the board of North Carolina and has her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
Sydney is passionate about neurodiversity-affirming therapy that is child-led. She believes in working with the whole child, which means considering all aspects of a child’s environment, family, sensory system, and communication abilities when creating a treatment plan. She is trained in the Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) approach, which is designed to help gestalt language processors. Other areas of interest include: early intervention, augmentative and alternative (AAC) communication, speech sound disorders, etc.
Her previous experience also includes inpatient and outpatient services in the hospital setting and private practice facilities with adult and pediatric clients. Combined with her experience as a lead toddler teacher in a daycare specializing in onsite therapy and a paraprofessional in an elementary school, she has worked with a variety of children with different abilities. Sydney became passionate about the field of speech pathology after her younger brother was in speech therapy for years as a child.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and dog, reading, drinking coffee, and traveling.
